Carrie St. Louis is a goddess amongst mortals. Welcome to my Ted Talk: In my two years of coaching with Carrie, I have grown more than I have in any other vocal training I’ve tried. She is so knowledgeable about the voice and how it works, and loves to continue learning about it which I think is so special. Almost every lesson we have a new exercise to try because she learned something new that week. She invests in her students and builds relationships with them so they can feel safe and comfy which is exactly what I needed. She has and continues to bring me the confidence I need, along with the technique I need to sing correctly and safely. She also gives great business and life advice, so she’s basically also my therapist. She is a safe space which enables her to to also call you (or maybe just me, personally) out on your (my) bullshit (can I cuss?). She’s the most lovely human being, and her lessons are seriously a highlight of my week. I would also like to add that I’m her favorite student but she probably won’t put that in my testimonial because she “can’t pick favorites” but I know Carrie, okay? I KNOW.

I've been singing for many years now and I often had trouble finding teachers who were into musical theater and who understood the style I wanted to work on and learn about. But from the first lesson, I knew I would love studying with Carrie. And I do! Carrie is funny, talented and she's taught me a lot! She's also so supportive, she believes in me more than I believe in myself. She encourages me to push my limits, but not in a harmful way. I never hurt myself when working with her. She just knows when something's there (even if you had no idea it was) and she knows how to unlock it. Carrie is THE greatest teacher I've ever had , I feel so blessed to have the chance to work with her and I hope I'll have this chance for a long time!

I started lessons with Carrie about a year ago after quite the hiatus from singing. Never having been consistent in studying voice, I knew right away I had found the right teacher for me! Beyond enjoying our time and having so much fun, I could really tell my voice was getting SO much stronger. Initially I started with a bunch of bad vocal habits, but quickly regained a healthy voice. I always feel so encouraged and accomplished after each lesson. Carrie is so great at celebrating and acknowledging the break throughs and wins. She is also great with suggesting different songs/characters because, while of course she knows our voices, she takes the time to know us personally! To say I’m thankful for the technique and the confidence Carrie has given me, and continues to give me, would be an understatement!

Carrie is a great teacher. She is perfect for singers seeking to bridge a gap between classical voice training and the musical theater style. Her advice on technique is tried and tested through her own experience as a Broadway Star. Her teaching is designed to help you sing with style but also with the endurance that it takes to function in the theater.

I can honestly say that Carrie is the best vocal coach I’ve ever had. When I first started with her my vocal confidence was not what it used to be and she helped me bounce back. Not only is she the real deal (I mean hello look at her impressive resume!!) she also cares about her students and goes above and beyond to cultivate relationships and has our best interests at heart. Her knowledge of the voice from a physiological standpoint has changed my technique and the way I look at my voice when performing. She has become much more than my voice teacher— she is my mentor and friend. And a ray of endless sunshine!! Trust me—you want to coach with her.

Through my work with Carrie, I have gained a wonderful teacher as well as an amazing role model. It is rare to find a teacher that leads by example, and Carrie consistently inspires me as both a performer and a person through her focus, patience and kindness. I love working with her and I can’t wait until all of Broadway is made up of Carrie St Louis alums!

In addition to being an excellent performer herself, Carrie is a great facilitator. She takes an individualistic approach in her lessons, working to both strengthen and protect every student’s voice. Bringing real world experience to her teaching, Carrie has a unique ability to make complex and dynamic concepts surrounding the voice accessible to her students. Through visualization techniques and demonstrative examples, Carrie is able to explain the function and anatomy of the voice in a way that both safely and effectively expands each student’s register and vocal capability. She is also incredibly encouraging and establishes a loving, safe space for students to learn.

When I started taking voice lessons from Carrie in the fall of 2018, I didn’t realize that our bimonthly virtual meetings would quickly become the absolute highlight of my week. I hadn’t taken regular voice lessons in nearly eight years and after my first lesson with Carrie I knew that I’d found something special. In only two years of working with her, I’ve been able to observe my growth as a singer.

Before my first lesson with Carrie was over I knew I wanted to keep working with her. She is great at explaining various techniques and exercises in a way that is easy to understand and in no way overwhelming. I have learned so much about healthy vocal technique, how to naturally emote during a performance and how my voice works. Every lesson I have gives me more new and useful information than I ever imagined learning. Carrie is a wonderful, supportive teacher. She has expressed belief in me when I didn’t have it in myself and helped me work through songs I never thought I’d be able to sing. I can’t imagine having anyone else guide me through my musical journey.

Before working with Carrie, voice lessons felt like a chore, something I had to do, not something I got to do. That all changed once I began working with her. I have gained a new found confidence in my vocal abilities and in life. Carrie cares deeply about each of her students and is invested in them as people. She always means it when she asks “how are you?” and she is genuinely interested to hear what’s new in your life. She is able to pinpoint areas that need improving and explains fixes clearly. She clearly displays her knowledge on the mechanics of the voice and helps her students understand how to reach their vocal goals in a healthy manner. Voice lessons aren’t just voice lessons with Carrie. They’re therapeutic, and I leave each lesson in a better mood than when I got there. I may have come to her looking for a vocal coach, and I got that, but I also got a cheerleader, therapist, and friend.

Carrie St. Louis' vocal coaching has been a total game-changer for me. I have worked with multiple voice teachers through the years, most charging two or three times what Carrie charges, and have never learned as much as I have during the months I have been studying under her. Within a few lessons, I have felt my vocal stamina increase, my vocal range expand, my acting evolve, and my ability to apply what I learned in lessons increase drastically. I started noticing that I was not only having more successful auditions but realizing when I fell back into old habits and being able to quickly fix them. Carrie St. Louis is one of the very few people who have both impressive performing credentials as well as a deep understanding of vocal anatomy and technique. Carrie also has the perfect personality for teaching lessons, as she always finds the perfect balance between honesty and support. Carrie will make sure her students feel supported and cared for in their lessons, but also pushes them to reach their highest potential. My weekly lessons with Carrie are always the highlight of my week, and I believe all singers would benefit greatly from signing up for lessons.

I’ve been working with Carrie since 2018 and am constantly learning something new about my voice. From the first lesson, Carrie has helped me learn how my voice works and has continued to encourage me to step out of my comfort zone to be come a better singer. She’s also incredibly caring and thoughtful, taking moments to just catch up on life before getting into the singing part. Working with Carrie has helped me gain confidence in singing and in life. She is truly a joy!
